Because of the shorter lifespan of our pets, we stress the importance of an annual physical examination. Thorough check-ups and preventative care can help avoid serious health problems. We offer a wide range of veterinary services to keep your companions feeling their best:
Diagnostic and Therapeutic Services: Our hospital is equipped to provide diagnostic and therapeutic services to care for your pets' complete health care needs. We can provide the highest level of care for your pets throughout their lives, from birth into their senior years.
Preventative Healthcare Program: We strongly believe in the phrase "prevention is the best medicine". Dogs and cats age approximately 7 human years for each 1 of their passing years. It is for this reason that close monitoring of internal health is the best way to provide optimal care and a long life for our pets. We have a well established and eagerly accepted program for monitoring your pet's health through simple blood, urine, and fecal tests. These tests can be easily performed during your pets' annual examination. Please contact us for more information!
Surgical Services: Our state-of-the-art surgical suite provides for the performance of a wide variety of surgical procedures.
Anesthesia: We utilize the safest available anesthetics to provide an extra margin of safety, especially for our older or high-risk patients (These anesthetics act rapidly, dissipate quickly, and have the lowest incidence of side effects.). Using the most modern equipment, the patient's vital signs are monitored during all anesthetic procedures.
Internal Medicine Consults: When necessary we offer referrals to internal medicine specialists who perform ultrasounds, endoscopic procedures, and help us with the diagnosis of more complicated diseases.
Radiology Services: Our on-site, digital X-ray equipment provides high quality radiographs to aid in the quick diagnosis of many disorders. Our special digital dental X-ray equipment allows us to offer state-of-the-art dental care.
Electrocardiography Services: We provide ECG services on-site as well as consultations with cardiology specialists.
Dentistry: Our dental services include teeth cleaning and polishing, digital dental X-rays, tooth extractions, and oral surgery. We are also equipped with a special digital dental X-ray machine, which allows us to quickly take dental radiographs and evaluate your pet for dental abnormalities.
Laboratory: Thanks to our in-house laboratory we can have results on critical cases within 15 minutes or less! Our comprehensive, state-or-the-art laboratory is equipped for serum chemistries which measure internal organ function, hematology to check for infection and anemia, electrolytes, clotting tests, urinalysis, hormone testing, and internal and external parasite testing. We also utilize commercial veterinary laboratories for routine and specialized diagnostics and consultations.
Microchip Identification: Microchipping is a safe and permanent form of identification that helps shelters and veterinarians reunite lost companion animals with their owners. Microchipping is recommended for all dogs and cats in conjunction with the use of a collar and identification tag and/or license. Placement of the microchip is a quick and simple procedure that is similar to giving a vaccination.
Pharmacy: We maintain a complete inventory of pharmaceuticals, therapeutic shampoos, flea and tick control products and heartworm preventatives to meet the needs of your pet. We also carry a full line of specialized prescription foods.
Vaccinations: As in human medicine, it is important to make sure that the patient is healthy enough to receive a particular vaccine. It is critical to determine which vaccines are suitable for each individual pet's age, lifestyle, risk of exposure, and prior medical conditions. One vaccination program does not fit all pets! At Rancho San Carlos Pet Clinic we tailor our recommendations to the needs of each individual pet. We may recommend that your pet receive a blood test to measure vaccine antibody levels prior to recommending a particular vaccination. When vaccinations are indicated we recommend a program that will prolong the interval between needed vaccinations. We are here to help you decide what is best for your pet.
Individualized Flea Control Programs: We develop programs for the specific needs of your pet and your own particular environmental situation. We will review with you the best ways to control fleas in your house, in your yard, and on your pet.
Dietary Counseling: We will provide guidance regarding your pet's nutritional needs for each life stage, including dietary requirements for growth, weight maintenance and performance. We recommend Hill's Prescription Diets (or other prescription diets) as therapeutic nutrition for pets with specific diseases.
Behavioral Counseling: We can provide advice regarding the correction of problems such as excessive barking, chewing, spraying, scratching, digging, house soiling and aggression.
Boarding: We provide veterinary supervised boarding of dogs and cats. All boarders receive personal attention from our caring staff. Pets may be dropped off and picked up during regular business hours Monday through Saturday.
Grooming: Our professional groomers provide all grooming services for both dogs and cats.
Emergency Care: We are available for emergencies during regular business hours. Please call our main telephone number for instructions for after-hour emergencies, or see the Emergencies page in this website.
